tunes i heart...the november version

ahh the holidays...how fun.

just kidding. holidays are not fun..neither are pissed off parents and screaming babies. which are pretty much my life now. at least until december 26th. so with that, i have like, no time (literally) for anything else. so that being said, im going to throw my favorite tunes as of late at you in rapid succession...get ready, get set, go!

1. Mumford And Sons - After The Storm - rando indie folk rock band of sorts, i guess is what they are...who really cares..i totally dig their sound and this song is wicked.

these next few are from some recent episodes of the vampire diaries...they are cranking out some good tunes lately...

2. The Afters - Ocean Wide - rando band i've never heard of...might be christian rock, prolly not, but either way..good song.

3. Andrew Belle - In My Veins - again from VD...loving this season.

4. Sleeperstar -  I Was Wrong - omgomgomg damon and elena...this played when he told her that he loved her and i went, *huge breathy sigh* and *tear* im so lame..lol

5. Alexi Murdoch - Wait - totally heard this on someone's tumblr and LOVED it...reminded me of something from some lame ass story i'd write...really good and slightly miserable..just the way i love my tunage.

6. Bad City - Fire In The Pouring Rain - totes sounds like something from the days of classic rock - ala Poison or Def Leppard or Guns-n-Roses...interesting if you can dig that kind of sound, which i can...

7. Ben Harper - Amen Omen - heard it on a show, loved it, 'nuff said.

8. Glee - Teenage Dream - no idea who the dude is that sings it, but OMG it freaking rocks so hard it should be illegal...currently my ringtone...i love getting phone calls so i can hear the beatbox/acapella, "let you put your hands on me in my skin tight jeans be your teenage dream tonight." woot

9. ok im almost embarassed to admit this one - Usher ft Jay-Z - Hot Toddy - um yeah...this song is so bad ass...i almost want a hot toddy..whatever the eff that is...lol

10. Silversun Pickups - Panic Switch - dear 2010 Colbalt I drove for a week..you were awesome for playing this song one night on my way home from work...never heard of this band but i like this song

11. Kings of Leon - Come Around Sundown - i love this whole cd...i mean, i loved KOL before, but theres something about this cd...its like they've finally peaked...its epically awesome...and the tunage on here is the most delicious ear candy i think my ears have ever feasted on...fav songs? the end, radioactive, and pyro

12. Katy Perry - Firework - i hated this song at first, but it sort of grew on me, then i saw the video and was like, oh wow..i love this song...

okay so thats it...i think...now im turning the tunes off and going to pick up Mockingjay, the third book in The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins...and dear Suzanne Collins, I totally want to be you...these books, The Hunger Games, Catching Fire and Mockingjay are brilliant, gripping and engrossing, I cannot tell you how much sleep I lost and groggy days I spent at work because I absolutely COULD NOT put them down. If you have not read these books, please do, you won't be disappointed. And if you are, you're a weenie.

A much needed Tunes I heart update

So it’s been waaaaaay to long since I've done a tunes I heart post....mostly because there haven't been any tunes I heart enough to pass on to you, but lately the music industry has decide to bless me with some awesome tunage so, as always, I will now pass it on to you. So here we go, 15 songs you may (or may not) have heard of.

1. Kings and Queens by 30 Seconds to Mars.
Used in the promo for ABC's new show, My Generation, I've been hearing this song for the better part of the summer. I finally decided to download it and I LOVE it. So you should too.
JK, love it or hate it, that's your prerogative, either way, check it out.

2. Toxic Valentine by All Time Low.
On the soundtrack for the controversial movie, Jennifer's Body (and I say controversial because some liked the movie, a lot hated it. I found it decent. And Adrian Brody in eyeliner was, in the words of main character Jennifer, extra salty) this song is awesome, partly because the soundtrack for the movie was epic, and partly because All Time Low can do no wrong in my eyes. With catchy lyrics and hooks like this:
She bites her lip and tips her bottle,
I take a drink cause the truth is hard to swallow.
Oh, oh, oh

Sex and white lies,
Handcuffs and alibis,
She lays her halo on the pillow where she sleeps...
Her heart beats, red wine,
My toxic valentine.
What’s not to love, so check it.

3. Inevitable by Anberlin.
Welcome to my new favorite obsession. "I want to be your last, first kiss." Seriously? If you didn't just swoon, bug off. Add to that, Stephen Christian, double swoon. Yes, Anberlin, you can be my last first kiss, ANYDAY. Moving on now...

4. Impossible by Anberlin.
Okay, I warned you...new obsession.

Take what you want from me
It means nothing now
Take everything from me
It means nothing now
Not so easy to forgive, harder to forget
Take what you want
Tell me you've never felt that way and I'll tell you you're a liar. Moving on.

5. Art of War by Anberlin.
The other day Steve and I went to Starbucks (ahhhh) and I was listening to this song and he asked me if it was old because it didn't sound new. For the life of me, I coudln't figure out why he thought that, then I went listening to their discography and I found out they did a remake of The Cure's song, Love Song. Then it clicked. After listening to Anberlin's new cd (gotta love Youtube baby...and leaked cd's) I realized it kinda sounded like The Cure. Not a whole lot, just a smidge. Anywhooo...the reason I LOVE this song is the chorus:
There are songs, I'll never write,
Because of you, walking out of my life.
There are words, that don't belong,
Because of you, I'll never write another love song.
Now, because it’s getting late, I’ll give you the last ten without any who-to-do. So read, go listen, and tell me what you love.
6. Dog Days Are Over by Florence And The Machine
7. Cosmic Love by Florence And The Machine
8. Kiss With A Fist by Florence And The Machine
9. Out Of Focus by Kari Kimmel
10. The One That Got Away by Katy Perry
11. Through The Trees by Low Shoulder
12. Misery by Maroon 5
13. Just A Feeling by Maroon 5
14. Hold My Heart by Sara Bareilles
15. Breathe Again by Sara Bareilles

Tunes I Heart This Week

This week I'm going to do something a little unconventional. I have been working like a dog...for serious..I feel like I live in the portrait studio...and because I feel like, hunting down new tunes has proved to be difficult this week...but there have been some favorites of mine that I haven't told you about because.....(wait for it) they're classical.

Well not really. Last year I discovered this....um, well, I guess I should start at the beginning. I was making a playlist for myspace I think, anyway, I was surfing playlist.com, looking for New American Classic by Taking Back Sunday. That song came out in like 2002 but to me its a classic..I love it. Well, while looking for that, I found a strictly instrumental piece...sorta like the muzac version of the song. Then a friend of mine told me that actually, it was a string quartet that does tributes to various bands.

Well wooty hoo. I was seven kinds of stoked, so I googled my happy butt off and found that they did a whole bunch of my favorite songs (and made some of my not so favorite songs sound way awesome.) So here we go...my top ten favorites that have been...if you will...strung out...

10.  Somebody To Love - Originally by Queen this song is like..blah..it makes me want to throw up in my mouth. I have no idea why..it's just one of those songs that I find revolting...however, when I heard the strung out version I actually really liked it. It's not very different..but it's better.

9. Love Remains The Same - Originally by Gavin Rossdale this one is just as sweet with Gavin singing it or not...I think the strung out version is the kind of thing you hear and you picture newlyweds dancing at their wedding or something just as mushy..lol.

8. Teardrop - Originally by Massive Attack, I heard this on a show my husband watches - House, they use part of the song as the shows theme song, when they do the credits and stuff like that. I googled it because I liked it so much then I heard it and realized there's some chick singing and ruining the song...I like this version because chickie isn't singing...don't get me wrong it's no where as bad ass as the original but it's something you can easily relax to.

7. The Nearness of You - Originally by Norah Jones..you'd think this song couldn't get any better...oh wait, it just did. thank you that is all.

6. Closer - Originally by Nine Inch Nails...this is the kind of song you play in the middle of the day when you are at home alone perfecting your stripper routine...srsly..either that or you are having hateful, dirty, disgusting sex...even thinking about the lyrics to this song I want to take another shower...lol..that's why I like this version..no dirty lyrics..

5. Smells Like Teen Spirit - I shouldn't even have to tell you who actually sings this..but if you're somehow deprived of pop culture for the last 20 something years, that would be Nirvana...no please leave if you don't know who Nirvana is. For those who stayed...this is awesome...no where are awesome as the real deal, but definitely good for an some classical-orchestra type of stuff.

4. Somewhere I Belong - Originally by Linkin Park this whole tribute is awesome...I loved Linkin Park when they first came out (and then sold out, but whatever)...this one (in my opinion) is a definite must check out.

3. Hey Jude - Again, if I have to tell you who sings this please go crawl back under your rock. But in case you'd like to know before you go that would be The Beatles. Hey Jude, The Beatles, Strung Out, 'nuff said.

2. Here Without You - Originally by Three Doors Down, I didn't recognize this at first...lol I actually had to google to see if it really was the Three Doors Down song. I love that song, but I love the strung out version more.

1. New American Classic - Originally by Taking Back Sunday, they made an awesome song equally as awesome. I can tell you all about it but at the end of the day you'll never get it unless you listen for yourself.

And just to add on, if classical is your thing check out a guy by the name of Yiruma....he is mainly piano, but very good. My three favorites of his are: Kiss the Rain (Preferably the strings version), Time Forgets, and River Flows in You. And if that's still not enough, check out the New Moon score (NOT the soundtrack) Alexandre Desplat is one talented dude. My favorite tracks on there are: 1 - New Moon, 3 - Romeo and Juliet (my all time fav), 6 - Edward Leaves, 13 - Almost a Kiss, and 21 - Full Moon...now New Moon & Full Moon sound the same, but they aren't...I promise.

okay...now that I've totally let my inner nerd hang out, I better shove her back in the closet..lol. I hope you find some tunage you like!

Tunes I Heart This Week

Welcome to another installment of tunes I heart...I'm talking to myself again this week because nobody reads this.
10. Finger Eleven - I'll Keep Your Memory Vague
Best Line:
I'll keep your memory vague
so you won't feel bad about me
9. Brandi Carlile - The Story
Best Line:
All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I've been
And how I got to where I am
But these stories don't mean anything
When you've got no one to tell them to
It's true...I was made for you

8. Reba McEntire - Consider Me Gone
Best Line:
If i'm not the one thing you can't stand to lose
If i'm not that arrow to the heart of you
If you don't get drunk on my kiss
If you think you can do better than this then i guess we're done
Let's not drag this on
Consider me gone
7. Miley Cyrus - I Hope You Find It
Best Line:

These clouds aren't going nowhere, baby
Rain keeps coming down
I just thought I'd try to call you, baby
For you got too far outta town
And I hope that you get this message that I'm leaving for you
'Cause I hate that you left without hearing the words that I needed you to

6. Iron & Wine - Each Coming Night
Best Line:
Will you say to me when I’m gone
"Your face has faded but lingers on
'Cause light strikes a deal with each coming night"

4. Stars - Your Ex-Lover Is Dead
Best Line:
It's nothing but time and a face that you lose
I chose to feel it and you couldn't choose
I'll write you a postcard
I'll send you the news
From a house down the road from real love...

Live through this, and you won't look back...

There's one thing I want to say, so I'll be brave
You were what I wanted
I gave what I gave
I'm not sorry I met you
I'm not sorry it's over
I'm not sorry there's nothing to save

3. Blake Bollinger - Say The Lines
Best Line:
I'll say the lines
one more time
say the lines
in my mind
say the lines
one more time
say the lines
over and over

2. Awake!Awake! - Quickly I Take My Time
Best Line:
I'll take my time as fast as I can now
Search my mind to find how to flee this doubt
Search my heart to know how to hold one now
I spin out and let, let my pride unfold
I let go
1. Alpha Rev - Goodbye From The Start
Best Line:
Was it goodbye from the start?
Now there is nothing left but promises
And the beautiful sadness
When you broke my heart
Was it a goodbye
Goodbye from the start?
