So this was me last night. I was laying (lying?) in bed last night, enjoying a James Patterson audio book, when I glanced up at the window and saw something (or someone) walk by the window.
My heart immediately started racing and fear paralyzed me for about five seconds. Did I really just see that? I thought.
At first I thought it was Steve, coming in to tell me something, but when he didn't speak or sit down on the bed, I immediately realized it wasn't him.
Okay, now I should probably explain that when this happened, the lights were out, the curtains were opened slightly and the blinds were open, there is a sulfuric orange street light that illuminates my backyard. When I saw the shadow, it blocked out the light, and of course it was dark in my room, so all I really saw was the shadow blocking the light.
So that being said, I laid there for a few seconds, too damned afraid to move, then my brain clicked on. I quickly rolled over, flicked the light on, and upon seeing the empty room, ran like hell to the living room, trying not to cry because I was so scared.
So, I went to Steve's desk and asked him if he was playing a trick on me, like maybe he went outside and walked past the window. He had no idea what I was talking about and said he'd come to bed so I wouldn't be scared all the while telling me that it was just my eyes playing tricks on me because I was tired.
Well, this morning, he told me that he couldn't sleep because he kept hearing footsteps and stuff. I was like, see, totally not my imagination.
I felt a little foolish, though, because I was telling him earlier last night (while we were watching a horror movie) that I liked being scared - the kind of scared that horror movies and scary books lend to, not freaky light block shadows creeping around your room late at night.
So tell me, what's the freakiest thing that's ever happened to you?

11 Days of Halloween - Scariest Book You've Ever Read
We've watched movies that have literally scared us so bad that it instills a lifelong fear in us. for me, that fear is clowns, for others it could be dolls or monsters, what have you.
Then there are books that are so scary, you're afraid to put it down because you want to know if the bad guy gets caught, or if the mysterious monster has been captured. these kinds of books are few and far between...sure, they are scary books out there, but most of them don't keep you up at night, not like these on my list do.
When I was a freshman in high school, I found this book on the bookshelf of a lady I babysat for. I picked up and started reading it after the kids were in bed.
I was up all night reading it, mostly because I was too afraid to sleep and if I wasn't going to sleep then I should just read it and be done. To this day its still one of the most freakishly good books I've ever read.
another book from high school, I was always a huge fan of R.L.Stine's work..the Goosebumps books, then later the Fear Street books..gah I loved them. Then I found this book in the back of the dusty stacks in the school library.
first of all, this book is SO not proper for a school. The sexuality and sex scenes in it...wow, if my parent's would have known that, I'm sure they would've had a hissy fit. Just saying. Moving on, the story is good, the plot is just freaky...it freaked me out a bit...I'm not sure it still would, but as a teenager, it did.
I don't remember much about this book, but what I do remember was that it skeeved me out. One of my friends and I read it together and would spend hours on the phone at night discussing the grody factor. Yes, I said grody. lol. I went on to read just about every John Saul book after completing this one and each one was just as, if not more, freaky as this one.
I went to get Steve's favorite scary book, but he said he's never read one. I gasped in horror and called him a weenie. He laughed at me and said he didn't like scary stuff. Sometimes I wonder...lol

okay, tell me you read these books when you were a kid.
This was where my, well I guess you could call it obsession started with all things scary. Somehow we ended up with these books in our house, I don't know if they came from the library or if my parents bought them, but I used to read them to my younger siblings to try and scare them. I loved these stories when i was a kid, they were scary without being too scary. It spawned my obsession with urban legends and horror movies.
I'm kinda sad now, I wish I had a copy in my house.

So there ya have folks. My favorite scary books. Have you ever read a book that scared you so bad you couldn't sleep?

12 days of Halloween - Favorite Scary Movies
To celebrate the fact that Halloween is right around the corner, I'll be doing a post a day about my favorite things Halloweeny. so for the first installment, I give you my favorite scary movies.
8. Dead Silence
this was Bree's pick for her favorite scary movie..it's not really her favorite, in fact, she hates scary movies, but when I asked her and Steve what their favs were, this was the first one she thought of and asked me to put it on the list.
1. The Exorcist
Srsly? What's not to love? Creepy little possessed girl who pukes pea soup! No, I'm kidding. My friend Jennie went to see back in high school, they re-released it for Halloween one year, she was completely freaked out...good times.
2. Jaws
Okay, now this is not your typical horror flick, however, it terrified the crap out of me so much so that I do not go in the ocean and if I do the water does not get any higher than my knees. In my book, that qualifies it as a horror flick.
3. Killer Klowns from Outer Space
Okay, cheesy 80's horror flick, yes I know. But watching this when you're six years old is enough to scar you for life. And it did. 22 years later I am STILL deathly afraid of clowns. I do not like them, I cannot stand them, they scare the living shiz out of me.
4. IT
The clown inspired horror continues. When I was 18, the guy I was dating made me watch this movie. He said it wasn't scary and that I would be fine.
Two weeks later I still hadn't slept for more than a couple hours each night. It was horrible...and still, to this day, I hate clowns.
5. Halloween
I was like 20-something the first time I saw this movie. It was great...creepy, classic horror flick...the way I like them. Its one of the few scary movies that still scare me, besides the clown movies, lol. Rob Zombie's remake is decent, but nothing ever replaces the original.
6. Scream
A series that should have stopped with one, Scream is a good movie. To me, its kinda something that could possibly happen...some deranged kids go on a killing spree because they are mentally effed in the head...its a stretch, I know, but maybe..just maybe it could happen.
7. Paranormal Activity
What can you say about this movie? Not a whole lot...if it didn't freak you the hell out then you have seriously seen some freaky shiz in your life and I'll give you a pass...it's scary...and the best part? A sequel. 'Nuff said.

so, there are my favorite scary movies. What are some of yours?

stare much?
I own a black cat. yup, I really do. His name is Chip (i so want another cat, meh, I'd rather have a dog so I could call it Fish, but that's neither here nor there). Chip likes to chillax on the back of the couch.
Well, I'm sitting on the couch right now, trying to write but really, I'm sitting here trying to decide what my favorite Glee song is. Well, somewhere between writing the 80th draft of chapter fifteen, pondering Glee and loving this new(?) Nelly song, I look to my left and Chip is eyeballing me.
like, trying to see into the depths of my soul kinda eyeballing.
it was creepy. i was kind of waiting for him to go all Pet Cemetery and eat my face.
but then he jumped off the couch and ran away, deciding not to eat my face. it was hilariously disturbing.
guess that's the hazard of owning a black cat...they like to stare creepily at you...
lol.
