Tunes I Heart This Week

I can't believe it's Tuesday again already...I'm definitely on a roll here..this is the third (I think) post of today...gotta take advantage of the days off while you can..lol..so without further ado I present, tunes i heart for this week.

11. Death Cab For Cutie. I have a love/hate relationship with DCFC...some of their music I love, and some I hate..lol. However, I love their song Passenger Seat. It's so I-belong-in-a-total-tearjerker-movie-ish. Really...whenever I hear it, it sort of depresses me...and it gets the creative juices flowing...even if it is sad.

Best Line:
"Do they collide?"
I ask and you smile.
With my feet on the dash
The world doesn't matter.

10. Paramore. I am currently having a love affair with Paramore. I think I said that last week...well I am still knee deep in the throes of love with their music. This week my new fav jam is Playing God. I have four Cd's I listen to in the car on my way to work. One is mostly pop, one is mostly Paramore, another is mostly sleepy music, and the fourth is I have no idea because I have yet to listen to it. Well I listen to pop on my way to work and Paramore on my home. Playing God normally plays when I'm at the mall. Never fails..lol..I sing it to the other cars as we sit in traffic..lol.
Best Line:
Next time you point a finger
I might have to bend it back
Or break it, break it off
Next time you point a finger
I'll point you to the mirror

9. Matt Wertz...no idea where I found him..somehow he ended up on my computer. I think I download songs in my sleep. Some people sleep walk, some sleep eat, I sleep download. lol. His song, 5:19 is the bees knees.

Best Line:
With one eye on the clock
And one on the phone
It's 5:19....
I'm feeling alone
If I could talk to you
I'd want you to know
I'm holding loose
But ain't letting go.

8. Ella Fitzgerald & Louie Armstrong. I started working on a new story that supposed to be set in the 50's (which probably won't happen because I don't know squat about the 50's) but in my search for music from that era I found this song. This woman has phenomenal talent. Her voice is so smokey and bluesy..and she's just..wow..I heart her and Louie's version of Dream A Little Dream Of Me.

Best Line:
Stars fading but I linger on dear
Still craving your kiss
I'm longin' to linger till dawn dear
Just saying this

7. Kenny Chesney. Oh Kenny, Kenny, Kenny, let me count the ways I love thee...oh wait..the fact that while I was seven months pregnant in JULY and in a THUNDERSTORM I was on the lawn at the VA Bch Amphitheater to see you in concert should attest to that fact. Yup I think that pretty much covers it. I looooooooooove On The Coast Of Somewhere Beautiful..love it. In fact its the inspiration (sort of) for my next story...I posted a piece of it last week, it's going to be titled The Coast and you can find it here

Best Line:
Sometimes when the sun goes down
Shadows fall across this little town
And I close my eyes and I drift away
To another place in another time
When the world was ours and she was mine
I dream of holdin' her again someday

6. Dead By Sunrise. I heard their song, Too Late, on the TV the other day and I was like, wow this guy sounds like the lead singer of Linkin Park. Turns out it is...and Dead By Sunrise is just a "side project" *cough, cough* yeah right *cough, cough* anyways, they are pretty good...

Best Line:
I'm so lost
I can't be found
It's too late to turn back now

5. Pink. The video for Glitter In The Air is so pretty...and the line "have you ever thrown a fist full of glitter in the air?" got me thinking. I have tons of tubes of glitter lying around, so I did it one day. I took a handful of blue glitter outside and threw it into the air. lame, yes, but it was gorgeous, glittering in the sunlight.
Best Line:
Have you ever looked fear in the face
And said "I just don’t care"
It’s only half past the point of no return
The tip of the iceberg
The sun before the burn
The thunder before the lightning
The breath before the phrase
Have you ever felt this way?

4. John Mayer. You are supposedly an ass. I don't rightly care as long as you keep making songs like Gravity and Heartbreak Warfare, which just so happens to be number four on my list this week. I love this song. I loved that they used it in Date Night, which if you still haven't seen it, go now and see it. It is seven kinds of hilarious.
Best Line:
Lightning strike
Inside my chest to keep me up at night
Dream of ways
To make you understand my pain
Clouds of sulfur in the air
Bombs are falling everywhere
It's heartbreak warfare

3. Lee Dewyze. Hi, I totally heart you. You are seven kinds of adorable, and you can sing your butt off. For realsies. Not to mention you took a fantastic song and made it better. Beast of Burden (originally by The Rolling Stones) is so good...I like to jam it when I cook dinner..its a dinner cooking kinda song.

Best Line:
You can put me out
On the street
Put me out
With no shoes on my feet
But, put me out, put me out
Put me out of misery

2. Robert Skoro. The song, In Line + The Vampire Diaries = some pretty hot stuff. Yeah, that's all I really have to say about that. No shiz..

Best Line:
And I swear that I can feel you
Creeping underneath my skin
And it feels like heaven to me
Sometimes
And i don't understand
Why you
Just cant let me in
And i close my eyes
And just let it all
Fall in line
1. This week we have a special guest contributor..my friend Jenn has accepted the invitation to provide us with her favorite song this week. So without further ado I give you her favorite songs of the week.

Tenth Avenue North. This song, By Your Side, touches my soul. I had just recently become saved, and was feeling lost, alone and unsure of the world in general. I felt as if all the information of the world was bouncing around in my head and it left me confused and scared. Then this song came on the radio. Needless to say I cried as soon as I heard it. It was exactly what I needed to hear. I loved it then, and still love it now.

Best Line:
‘Cause I’ll be by your side
Wherever you fall
In the dead of night
Whenever you call
And please don’t fight
These hands that are holding you
My hands are holding you

Tenth Avenue North. I truly love this song, Hold My Heart. I feel that it embodies a lot of what I’m going through right now.  When I first heard this song I loved it right away.  I find that when I’m feeling lost, depressed, confused or stressed, that if I listen to this song, it seems to all melt away. I just really want to share it with everyone!
Best Line:
One tear in the driving rain,
One voice in a sea of pain
Could the maker of the stars
Hear the sound of my breakin’ heart?
One light, that’s all I am
Right now I can barely stand
If You’re everything You say You are
Won’t You come close, and hold my heart

Big thanks to Jenn for taking the time to contribute. Hope there's something here that you like..if not, stay tuned for more music next week. I'm sure by then my musical schizophrenia will be in full swing and my choices will leave you going, "Oh stars, what is this chick smoking?"

Tunes I Heart This Week

Much like the last installment of tunes I heart...I have had the pleasure of uncovering some very awesome new bands/songs. It was hard this time. The list started out with 100 songs. I narrowed it down to 20 or so that I really loved, but I figured throwing 20 songs at you was a bit much so I narrowed it down to 12. 12 is a good number. On average, a CD has 12 songs...so without further ado, here we go.

12. Wakey!Wakey! This band is awesome and Mike Grubbs, the lead singer, is totally adorable, even if he does look like Grizzly Adams. And not to mention they get major kudos because I LOVE the name of their CD: Almost Everything I wish I'd Said The Last Time I Saw You.  They have quite a few songs on the list so bear with me. The first one to make the list is Car Crash. This one is a bit melancholy, the simple piano accompaniment makes it sad..not to mention the lyrics are beautiful and the eventual violin that joins in...gah it almost breaks my heart..
Best Line:
I take off my shoes, I let the flames crawl up and burn right through me. I'm silent as a movie, I always thought you knew me better. At least you were thrown clear, cause I'm still stuck in here

11. The Rescues. Their song, Crazy Ever After was once featured on an episode of Grey's Anatomy. I found them on NoiseTrade.com the other day and instantly fell in love with this song. It could be a song from one of my stories...I tend to lean toward music that summarizes what I'm writing...this is definitely in that category.
Best Line:
Stay (stay, stay), everything is wrong without you. Stay (stay, stay), my whole world's a wreck, oh will you save me now (save me now) or leave me crazy ever after.

10. Green River Ordinance. Comcast's music channels like to shove their song Come On, down my throat, however, I have a different song of theirs for the list. The acoustic version of Piece It Together. I actually used this one as a chapter title for a story (see, I told you I like songs to go with my stories). The lead singer has a nice voice...sounds like someone else, but at this moment I can't place my finger on who exactly he sounds like.
Best Line:
And this so familiar road, it carries me back home, past a city in a sign to you. And this so familiar smell of the summer in the air is something beautiful quite unusual tonight.

9. Britt Nicole. I love this girl's music. My friend Jenn first told me about her and I have since fallen in love. Her song Have Your Way comforts me beyond belief. It reaffirms that God is in control and that whatever happens is what He wants to happen and He does it because He knows you can handle it.
Best Line:
But you promised you'd take care of me, so I'll stop searching for the answers, I'll stop praying for an escape, I'll trust you God with where I am and believe you will have your way, just have your way.

8. City & Colour. A few days ago I got an email from a reader who said to listen to this song, Hello, I'm In Delaware - she was listening to it when my main characters husband died after a battle with non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. I googled and listened to the song, crying like a baby as it played.  It's hard to pick a line that best describes the song because the song is that darn good. But I'll try and you'll just have to take my word for it and go google it. You won't be disappointed.
Best Line:
My body aches and it hurts to say that no one is moving and I wish that I weren't here tonight but this is my life and I will see you again, I will see you again a long time from now.

7. Sons of Sylvia. I first heard of these guys when they did a duet with Carrie Underwood for a song called What Can I Say? Well the other night they performed, Love Left To Lose on American Idol and I was like "Train Wreck!" but I googled their CD anyway because I really liked their song with Carrie. The CD was much better than I expected and Love Left To Lose gets stuck in my head quite frequently, but there is another song on their CD that I adore more: Long Beach. The guys might be country, but this song definitely doesn't have the cliched twangy country sound. It's the new style of country much like Danny Gokey (did you check out his song Tiny Life?) or Kieth Urban.
Best Line:
But an earthquake made my heart break now it's too late it's all gone, it's all gone, it's all gone.

6. Wakey!Wakey! I told you they had a couple of songs. This one is called Almost Everything and I have no idea why I like it. It resembles something by The Airborne Toxic Event and I love their music..anywhoo..
Best Line:
So you miss the feeling when you step outside, yeah your  mind comes all untied and then you open your eyes and you don't feel lonely, see it feels bad now but its gonna get better someday

5. Parmore. Heard this song on an episode of The Vampire Diaries and it's been stuck in my head ever since. Brick By Boring BrickParamore high. Loving it! I think what I love the most about this song is the fact that, to me, it sounds like the destruction of a fairy tale..maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm not...who knows ;)
Best Line:
Keep your feet on the ground when your head's in the clouds

4. We Are The Fallen. My friend Chris had made a comment about their cover of Madonna's Like a Prayer and Chris has interesting taste in music so I googled them. Turns out the lead singer is Carly Smithson from American Idol a few years back. She (I guess) formed a band with some members of Evanescence and tada here is We Are The Fallen. Bury Me Alive sounds like something Evanescence would have done, but I suppose that's to be expected when you have two members of the group in your new band. Whatever..not like I care..the song rocks.
Best Line:
All I did was love you, and now I hate the nightmare you've become. I can't let you fool me, I won't need you again.

3. Christina Aguilera. The other day CafeMom was hating on the video for her new song, Not Myself Tonight, which seems like it was inspired by something Lady Gaga would do. It was racy and risque and if I'm being honest, very sexual. If I was a dude I would have been drooling all over my keyboard. Heck, I'm a chick and I was like wow, that's hot. I know the issue is that X-Tina's a mom, and she's doing this video...me personally, I say go for it girl. For having a two year old she looks great and its like that old saying says, "if you got it flaunt it." I'm trying to find the edited version of the song...I don't think I really want my seven year old saying, "Well if you don't like it F&ck you."
Best Line:
I'm out of character, I'm in rare form and if you really knew me, you'd know its not the norm

2. Taio Cruz. I'm on a sorta poppy/hip-hoppy kick. I don't like much but the stuff I do like is relatively clean and not so nasty. I know the Christina song above says the F-word but without it, the song isn't so vulgar...you don't really know what she's talking about unless you're an adult. Taio Cruz's Break Your Heart is so catchy I just want to dance whenever I hear it. And he doesn't curse (at least not in my version) or call women derogatory names. I know there's another version ( with Ludacris) but I don't have that nor have I heard it..so I'm going off what I have.
Best Line:
I'm only gonna break break your break break your heart

1.  Wakey!Wakey! The lead singer, Michael Grubbs is on One Tree Hill. He plays the bartender, Grubbs, and Miranda - the bitchy record label chick, has been trying all season to get him to sign a deal with her to make a record. He gives in and starts to record a CD then Miranda (who is British) finds out she's being deported and in a move a la The Proposal, Grubbs asks Miranda to marry him. She of course says no, so Grubbs writes this song, Dance So Good, for her. If you didn't love Grubbs before that then you do now. He started singing to her and she melted..it was so sweet (yeah, yeah shut up I know it's just a TV show..lol)
Best Line:
So tell me why we're talking when we dance so good and you know you can't stay but I wish you would. Yeah I wish you would, yeah I wish you would.

So to recap:
12. Wakey!Wakey! - Car Crash
11. The Rescues - Crazy Ever After
10.Green River Ordinance - Piece It Together (Acoustic)
9. Britt Nicole - Have Your Way
8.City & Colour - Hello I'm In Delaware
7. Sons of Sylvia - Long Beach
6. Wakey!Wakey! - Almost Everything
5. Paramore - Brick By Boring Brick
4. We Are The Fallen - Bury Me Alive
3. Christina Aguilera - Not Myself Tonight
2. Taoi Cruz - Break Your Heart
1. Wakey!Wakey! - Dance So Good

Tunes I heart this week

Music pretty much rules my life. When my husband's at work and Bree is in school, I pretty much spend my days doing one of three things (or a combination of these three things) they are:
  1. Surfing the 'net
  2. writing
  3. searching for and or downloading music

This week I've had the pleasure of discovering some pretty gnarly artists whose music/songs I am in love with. I'm kinda behind on some of these artists or songs...I like to discover music in my own time...normally when I find a song it defines my life at that moment, even if the song is from 1979...so if you've heard of these songs carry on and maybe some day I'll have something you haven't heard of. Oh and I have musical schizophrenia...do not be alarmed if you see Lady Gaga and Umbrellas on the same list...I'm weird like that.

10. Danny Gokey. His song, Tiny Life is pretty much the best song ever. We all remember Danny from American Idol last year and if you didn't watch then shame on you..he pretty much ruled AI last year...forget Adam Lambert or that dude who won (see how great he is I can't even remember his name {and what's even sadder is I have his CD} lol). He went the country route but really doesn't have the twang you associate with country music singers. I guess what makes him country is that slide guitar thing-a-ma-jig...but whatever...Tiny Life is an awesome song.
Best line:
I'm not sure where it's all going or what it all means, but sometimes I think it's just a simple thing. I close my eyes and I realize all I really need.

9. Tegan and Sara. I found them a few years ago when Grey's Anatomy featured one of their songs...I'm not really a fan but I love their song The Ocean. I saw some word art with the lyrics of the song on it and I liked it so much I googled and found the song. It's catchy in an annoying sort of way..if that makes any sense.

Best line:
Well I know what I want, what I want is right here with you

8. Corrupt by Depeche Mode. I heard this song last summer when HBO previewed the upcoming season of True Blood but I could never find out who sang it. Then I saw some YouTube video and this song was playing in the background.
OH.
MY.
GOD.
I feel dirty every time I hear it, so much so that I almost want to take a shower, almost being the operative word in that sentence (lol almost meaning if I didn't have to pay the water bill...lol). It's slinky and sexy and dirty and...wow...just wow...

Best line:
I could corrupt you, it would be easy, watching you suffer, girl it would please me.

7. For all the music I have there is so much that when it plays I honestly scratch my head and wonder where the hell it came from. Did someone send that to me? Was it part of a soundtrack? St. Lola in the Fields was one of them. I was writing a chapter of a story and the song Unless started to play and I was like what the hell is this, but the song is so great I didn't care where it came from..

Best line:
I know what I'd do, but I don't think I should. I have love for you. Just so it's understood I could make you mine, make you hold me close, make you lose your mind. But I won't...Unless you want me to

6. I haven't seen the new Alice in Wonderland movie, but its soundtrack is pretty freaking phenomenal. It has so many great songs. One of my favorites on the soundtrack is Painting Flowers by All Time Low. I pretty much love them anyway so its not surprising. The whole soundtrack is great, if you get a change to give it a listen I highly recommend it, its one of the better movie soundtracks I've heard.

Best line:
When I wake up, the dream isn't done, I wanna see your face and know I've made it home. If nothing is true, what more can i do? I am still painting flowers for you.

5. Muse. Never been a fan, but the lyrics got me on this song so I gave it a chance, turns out this guys is pretty much a lyrical genius. Nikki is way jealous of his skillz...and he's got some cuz I spelled it with a z. Resistance is pretty much an awesome song. It's got a sorta Romeo and Juliet feel to it.

Best line:
Is our secret safe tonight and are we out of sight or will our world come tumbling down? will they find our hiding place, is this our last embrace?

4. Daniel Merriweather. VH1 and their you oughta know dealio is like, the best - when they update it. Daniel was one of their you oughta know artists. His song Red is pretty spiffy. I don't know where he's from but his voice is amazing.
 Best line:
I can't do this by myself, all of these problems they're all in your head, and I can't be somebody else. You took something perfect and painted it red.

3. Faber Drive. No one told me they came out with a CD last year (guess I should follow them on twitter or facebook then I would've known, huh?) and so I got it and gave it a listen. Um, hello...this CD is pretty awesome. My favorite song would have to be You and I Tonight Forever is the best...it reminds me of being a teenager, but it also reminds me of being an adult and looking back on the things we loved and lost...it captures that feeling of unrequited love perfectly...not like I know much about unrequited love, but really, that's neither here nor there...awesome song...

Best line:
Time goes by, but still I find can't keep you off my mind, I'll wait forever, it's better late than never

2. Ok Go is a new find for me. I listened to their new CD, Of The Blue Colour Of The Sky and instantly fell in love with WTF? The title is hilarious and the song is so damn catchy you wanna boogie when it comes on, and if you watch Fox they show it when they preview Bones and Fringe

Best lines:
I've been trying to get my head around what the f*ck is happening.
and
Ooh, I don't know what to tell ya, there's just this thing about ya

1.William Fitzsimmons. Where have you been hiding all my life? I LOVE YOU! I have heard his songs After Afterall and I Don't Feel It Anymore (probably from a CW show...i.e. One Tree Hill). Well I was watching 16 and Pregnant (I know, I know...total guilty pleasure) and they played one of his songs called Even Now...LOVE IT!
Best line:
How long should I wait before I let you go? How long should I decide? Whose side should I take when both of us were wrong, when we both share the blame.

So to recap:

10. Tiny Life by Danny Gokey
9. The Ocean by Tegan and Sara
8. Corrupt by Depeche Mode
7. Unless by St. Lola in the Fields
6. Painting Flowers by All Time Low
5. Resistance by Muse
4. Red by Daniel Merriweather
3. Forever by Faber Drive
2. WTF? by Ok Go
1. Even Now by William Fitzsimmons

What are you listening to? (tell me so I can steal your awesome music songs then rave about them later...lol...totally kidding)

Who are they?

In a recent post here, someone made a comment about not knowing who Stefan and Damon Salvatore or Sam and Dean Winchester were.

(Pause for dramatic effect..lol)

And I thought well hmm...not everyone is a cornball like me...lol...and not everyone likes uber handsome but-oh-so-devilishly-bad vampires or all that supernatural nonsense...I do however love all that corny nonsense. So this here post is a glimpse into me...

Once upon a time a author named L.J. Smith wrote a book called...(dun dun dun!!!!) The Vampire Diaries. I think book one is titled The Awakening, I say think because I haven't read it. One friend said it was kind of lamespice, another said it was good but it made her hate the show. Whateverspice, its all good. I didn't read it because I didn't want to. But back to the matter at hand. This fall the CW converted it into a TV show starring Paul Wesley as the ever broody, totally smexy Stefan Salvatore..aka the good brother.

Now at first I totally loved Stefan because Damon was a dick. Until this episode: The Lost Girls, where he pranced around on some structure in the house looking delicious (it didn't hurt that the song was awesome too, Anberlin's remake of Depeche Mode's Enjoy the Silence).  He might not be everybody's cup of tea, but he makes fun of Edward Cullen and Twilight and New Moon which totally cracked me up..yes I am one of "those" people..aka the ones who like Twilight and all that jazz..but it was still funny...I'd take the Salvatore brothers over Edward Cullen anyday...'nuff said.

So anywhoo, this is Ian Somerhalder as the viciously delicious Damon Salvatore, aka the jerky brother...

I'm not sure what exactly the point of the show is...lol...but Stefan's in love with a girl who looks exactly like his ex-vampire girlfriend Katherine, who was a skank and slept with both brothers. Damon's been looking for her and Stefan just wants to be a normal teenage and, like, be angsty and broody and makey-outey with Elena, the chick who looks like Katherine. It's entertaining and they sucked me in....lol..I'm such a drone...

Moving on to the next part of my post..Sam and Dean Winchester...(huge dreamy fan girl sigh..lol...I'm 27 going on 10..but shh don't tell, it'll just be our little secret). A friend of mine turned me on to Supernatural..gah I don't even know how..I think there was a Thursday night when nothing was on but Supernatural so I started watching was like, um hey, this Sam guy is way hot..so I rented all four seasons and went nuts. The rest, as they say, is history.

So for starters we have Jared Padalecki aka Sam Winchester aka "I swear to all that is Holy if I EVER see you walking unguarded down the street I will utilize the super spacious trunk of my smart little Focus and kidnap you."

for realsies.

And then Jensen Ackles aka Dean Winchester...he's a cutie too, but in an abrasive way..lol..

                                Dean                                               Sam

Ignore the puzzled expressions, it's a screen shot from Thursday's episode...you'd look confused too if you were standing in Eden talking to Joshua and he told you God decided he didn't care anymore...that and their cast photos are from like, five years ago..and it looks like Sam hasn't had a haircut since then. If anyone out there in cyber space knows this dude...please, beg him to get a haircut..the shag-a-doo is so not working for him..lol..

So there ya have it. Stefan and Damon, Sam and Dean...all in all that equals a damn good Thursday night...lol
